Quantification of the DNA in a sample is typically the only pre-STR analysis step in forensic casework. Therefore, it is both useful and necessary to extract as much information as possible from these samples, aiding in both setup of the STR reaction and interpretation of unexpected results. The quantification step should be seen as a quality control step rather than just a quantification of the DNA concentration.
