New packaging, same QIAGEN quality

Environmentally friendly shipping by QIAGEN

At QIAGEN we are committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations. That’s why we’re switching our expanded polystyrene (EPS) boxes used in dry-ice shipments with ClimaCell liners, a greener alternative that uses paper and starch for insulation. By eliminating the EPS boxes, we have greatly reduced the transportation plastic in an average QIAGEN shipment.
Benefits of our ClimaCell box liners
  • Effective: Provides equivalent thermal protection to EPS alternatives.
  • Eco-friendly: Produces 63% less CO2 emissions during manufacturing compared to EPS foam.
  • Recyclable: 100% curbside recyclable and made with renewable plant-based materials.

Uncompromised performance

The thermal performance of the new ClimaCell liners we are using for dry ice shipments has been tested in an ISTA-certified lab and meets requirements for ISTA Procedure 7E: Testing Standard for Thermal Transport Packaging used in Parcel Delivery Systems. With thermal performance similar to that of EPS, you can rest assured that your quality QIAGEN products are kept cold and safe during delivery.

Environmentally friendly

Compared to EPS, the new ClimaCell liners produce approximately 63% less CO2 emissions during manufacturing. With an annual volume of 10,000 dry-ice coolers shipped by QIAGEN in the U.S., we estimate this change will result in a reduction of 21,950 pounds of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent). That’s equivalent to planting 165 trees and letting them grow for 10 years. By switching to the ClimaCell liners, we are reducing our plastic footprint by over 3 tons per year.

Widely Recyclable designation

Improved Recyclability

Our new ClimaCell liners contain insulating material manufactured from plant-based material. This thermal insulator has received the “Widely Recyclable” designation from the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s How2Recycle® program and can be disposed of alongside the cardboard box with the rest of your curbside recycling. All other packaging should be disposed of according to local requirements.
