World AIDS Day 2021
World AIDS Day

We can end HIV/AIDS

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), HIV/AIDS has killed 40.4 million people to date. It is estimated that 1.3 million people acquired HIV in 2022. Although there is still no cure for HIV infection, HIV infection can be considered a manageable chronic health condition with access to effective prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care, including for opportunistic infections. Improvment continues to be made for enabling people living with HIV to lead long and healthy lives.

Unfortunately, progress in the fight against HIV has stalled in recent years, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting more people at risk.

Since 1988, the world has commemorated World AIDS Day on the first day of December to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, encourage testing, and show support for those living with and affected by the disease.
