NeXtal Evolution µplate

For protein crystallization trial setup
  • Automated (SBS format) or manual setup of protein crystallization trials
  • Highest reproducibility due to minimal evaporation
  • Low birefringence and UV transparency enable automatic visualization
  • Semielliptical protein well improves drop centering and crystal fishing

NeXtal Evolution µplates are used for automated or manual setup of protein crystallization trials. Their excellent optical properties, UV transparency, and low birefringence make them suitable for automatic visualization systems. They are supplied as 96-well microplates, where each position comprises a reservoir well, with 60–100 µl screening solution, and a protein well, which can hold 0.1–2 µl protein solution plus 0.1–2 µl reservoir solution.

The entire NeXtal product line has been discontinued at QIAGEN. The products can be ordered from Molecular Dimensions, Inc., 434 West Dussel Drive, Maumee, OH 43537, USA. For further information, please contact their customer service or visit their website.

The NeXtal Evolution μplate ensures superior results compared to those obtained with plates from other suppliers. Screen A: 0.1 M Tris, pH 8.5, 35% MPD, 0.2 M ammonium sulfate; Screen B: 0.1 M sodium cacodylate, pH 6.5, 35% isopropanol, 0.2 M magnesium chloride. Solutions were pipetted on central or border wells of the microplate. |NeXtal Evolution µplates have an innovative design to ensure improved drop centering and easy crystal fishing.|
Performance
The design of the NeXtal Evolution µplate ensures minimal evaporation during crystallization experiments (see figure "Comparison of evaporation").
Principle

NeXtal Evolution µplates offer a platform for high-throughput screening of crystallization conditions. Direct solution transfer can be made from NeXtal DWBlocks, which share the same format. Equal volumes of protein and crystallization solution are mixed in the protein wells and the plate is sealed with a tape sheet. Their innovative design ensures improved drop centering and easy crystal fishing (see figure "Important technical features").The wide rims minimize evaporation during crystallization experiments (see figure "Comparison of evaporation"). In addition, the rims feature a cutter path, which allows opening of a well without disturbing the neighboring experiments.
