Product Details

The QIAsprint Connect is a magnetic-bead extraction system designed for automated, high-throughput nucleic acid purification of up to 2 x 96 samples. The system features two plate hotels and integrated heating and cooling capabilities to support efficient lysis and overnight runs. With a compact benchtop footprint that you can visualize through the augmented reality (AR) tool, the instrument can fit seamlessly into high-throughput labs. QIAsprint Connect supports 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, with secure user management, electronic records and full audit traceability.

The instrument runs QIAGEN-validated protocols or user-defined workflows, configurable through an intuitive touchscreen interface. The instrument supports a broad range of sample types – cells, tissue, whole blood, plant material, pathogen and microbiome samples – through a modular kit system designed for flexibility across applications.

QIAsprint Connect also uses a novel consumable design that reduces plastic use by up to 50% and packaging volume by 40% compared to standard consumables based on internal R&D comparisons (see  Thin-walled consumables paired with a reusable metal frame). The stackable plate inserts reduce kit box volume, optimizing storage space and improving shipping efficiency (see  Stackable prep plates that reduce storage and logistics burden).

The QIAsprint Connect is for Research Use Only (RUO). Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Principle

QIAsprint Connect uses automated magnetic-bead technology to purify nucleic acids with precision and consistency at high throughput. A magnetic rod, enclosed in a protective prep cover, is lowered into each sample well, capturing magnetic particles bound to nucleic acids and lifting them from the solution (see  Working principle of QIAsprint Connect). The particles are then transferred into the next well containing the wash buffer. When the magnet retracts, the particles are released and gently resuspended and mixed through controlled up-and-down movement of the prep cover. This bind, transfer and release sequence is repeated across multiple wells to ensure thorough purification and reliable results.

With an integrated magnetic head containing 96 rods, QIAsprint Connect processes up to 96 samples in parallel, supporting scalable, reproducible nucleic acid purification in demanding lab environments.

Procedure

QIAsprint Connect is designed to keep hands-on time to a minimum. Once samples and consumables are loaded and a protocol is selected, the system takes over – automatically executing the full magnetic-bead purification workflow.

Running a sample on QIAsprint Connect

  1. Prepare samples and reagents according to the application protocol
  2. Load samples, reagents and consumables onto the instrument
  3. Select a protocol on the touchscreen
  4. Start the run – the system automatically confirms that all plates and modules are correctly positioned, then executes the automated purification steps
  5. Collect purified nucleic acids, ready for downstream applications

Protocols can be modified or created from scratch to match your specific workflow.

QIAsprint Connect modular kit system

The modular kit system works like a set of building blocks. Each workflow is assembled by combining three components: a sample-specific PrepSet, the appropriate Essential Kit and/or any optional Add-on modules. This structure lets you configure exactly the workflow you need – whether you're purifying DNA, RNA, miRNA, viral nucleic acids, plasmid DNA or microbial DNA (see Concept of the modular kit system). Mix and match modules to adapt to new applications, scale throughput and maintain consistent purification performance across all workflows.

Concept of the modular kit system

PrepSets Essential Kits Add-ons

Sample-specific pretreatment

PrepSets provide lysis and pretreatment chemistry optimized for various sample types. PrepSets address differences in complexity and inhibitors to ensure consistent input for automated extraction.

The automation backbone

The Essential Kit drives the automated bind, wash and elute steps using proven magnetic particle technology. One Essential Kit can be paired with multiple Prep Sets, keeping workflows consistent.

Targeted adaptation when needed

Add-ons introduce optional chemistry for specific workflow needs, such as QIApHish for plasmid workflows or DNase treatment for RNA applications. These targeted additions allow protocol adaptation without complicating the core process.

For even greater flexibility, nearly all buffers and reagents are also available as standalone items to support specialized workflows (see QIAsprint sets and consumables finder). Use the QIAsprint Connect Protocol Guide to find validated protocols and recommended kit combinations for your sample type and application, or access guidance on adapting a protocol.

FAQ

What needs to be ordered to run the instrument?
In most cases, the operator needs an Essential kit, a PrepSet kit, and plastic consumables. The latter includes a QIAsprint Prep Plate Insert (cat. no. 582226), a QIAsprint Prep Cover (cat. no. 582103), and a QIAsprint Elution Plate (cat. no. 583204).
FAQ-4194
Is it possible to automate the QIAsprint chemistry on other platforms?
Yes, the QIAprint chemistry is compatible with all magnetic particle processors. QIAGEN will also disclose the workflow steps on the QIAsprint Connect. However, the transfer to other platforms needs to be done by the operator.
FAQ-4195
Can I trade in another instrument for a QIAsprint Connect?
Trade-in programs are available. Please contact your local sales representative.
FAQ-4196
What is the best way to load the plates with buffers?
Usually, a multichannel pipette or a small liquid handler is used.
FAQ-4197
Will there be pre-filled plates?
No, there are no plans to provide prefilled plates. Chemistry and plastics would be wasted if fewer than 96 samples are processed. This would be in contrast to QIAGEN's approach to support sustainability.
FAQ-4198
Can QIAGEN develop a customized protocol?
The QIAsprint user interface and programming are very intuitive. In most cases, the operator will be able to program the instrument. However, QIAGEN can support. Please contact your sales representative.
FAQ-4199
Does the QIAsprint do sample tracking?
The QIAsprint reads barcodes on the processing plates but not individual samples.
FAQ-4200
Can I use other plastics than the QIAsprint Connect plastics on the instrument?
No, this is not possible. The QIAsprint Connect plastics are designed to fit into the frames that are transported on the workdeck by the gripper in a stable way. Other plastics would not fit in there.
