Our approach to the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases has shifted dramatically in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been an increased interest and need for multiplex PCR panel testing – widely known as syndromic testing – which can facilitate faster clinical decision making and infection control.

To explore how syndromic testing is currently being used in infectious disease diagnostics, we hosted a special virtual event on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Invited guests and internal experts discussed their experiences with syndromic testing and explored the past, present and future of this diagnostic tool.

Speakers

Davide Manissero, MD, MRCPCH, MSc, DTM&H

Dr. Manissero is Chief Medical Officer – Infection and Immune Diagnostics at QIAGEN and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the University College of London. His experience spans from diagnostic to drug development, and he has held senior public health positions at the WHO and European CDC.
Roy F. Chemaly, MD, MPH, FACP, FIDSA, CMQ

Dr. Roy Chemaly is a tenured Professor of Medicine in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control & Employee Health at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Chemaly completed his training in infectious diseases and medical microbiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board-certified in internal medicine/infectious diseases, medical quality and medical microbiology.
Prof Dr med Stephan Gehring

Dr. Gehring is head of the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology and is a senior consultant in the Pediatric Intensive Care Section at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. He leads the scientific management of Pediatric Immunology and Infectiology. He is a specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine.
Susan A. Weaver, PhD, CLS

Susan is the Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory Director at Natividad Hospital in Salinas, California, a Level II Trauma Center, that has received multiple awards for Maternity and Family Care. She works closely with the Monterey County Department of Public Health, as a consultant for Santa Cruz County Public Health and the University of California Santa Cruz COVID Laboratory.
