QIAGEN tube magnets are convenient separation devices for use in cell separation, magnetocapture, immunoassays and purification of 6xHis-tagged proteins. Magnetic separation can be carried out in a variety of tube sizes and volumes. The beads are pulled to the side of the tube by the magnetic field, which has a strength of greater than 20 megaoersted, and are held in place while solutions are exchanged or removed. Removal of the magnetic field allows easy resuspension of the magnetic particles.
The Single-Tube Magnet enables separation of magnetic particles in a 1.5 ml or 2 ml tube. The magnet can separate volumes between 40 µl and 1 ml that contain <5 mg BioMag particles.
The 12-Tube Magnet consists of a series of 12 powerful NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) magnetic disks. Each magnetic disk attracts the beads in a 1.5 ml or 2 ml tube fitted in an adjacent hole. After capture of 6xHis-tagged proteins, the magnetic beads are pulled to the side of the tubes and kept in place while buffers are exchanged. A second series of holes allows resuspension of the magnetic beads away from the magnetic field to enable thorough washing.
The 15 ml/50 ml Tube Magnet enables separation of BioMag magnetic particles in 15 ml or 50 ml tubes. Volumes between 7 ml and 12 ml in 15 ml tubes and between 25 ml and 40 ml in 50 ml tubes can be effectively separated.
Since the Qproteome Plasma Membrane Protein procedure requires 1.5 ml/2.0 ml reaction tubes, we recommend using the follwing magnets for handling the magnetic beads:
