HRM — an Innovative Technology for Analysis of Genetic Variations

High-Resolution Melting (HRM) analysis is a technique that characterizes double-stranded PCR products based on their dissociation (melting) behavior as they transition from double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) to single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) with increasing temperature. Previously unknown and even complex sequence variations can be readily detected and characterized in an easy and straightforward way. HRM technology allows rapid and cost-effective characterization of DNA samples in emerging and challenging applications such as reliable SNP genotyping, mutation scanning, species identification and DNA methylation analysis.

Dr. Missel is Director of Research and Development at QIAGEN, responsible for the development of modification and amplification technologies and products, such as reagents and assays for QIAGEN's standard and real-time PCR, RT-PCR, and HRM solutions. Dr. Missel received his PhD from the Gene Center at the University of Munich in molecular biology and biochemistry. He has been involved in various capacities in the biotechnology industry for more than 13 years.
