This is a real-time RT-PCR reagent for the identification of RNA from Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) and Transmissible Gastroenteritis Virus (TGEV). RT-PCR is based on the amplification of specific regions of the pathogen genome. It is a sensitive and specific tool for pathogen identification.

Real-time RT-PCR involves the reverse transcription of viral RNA and subsequent amplification of the cDNA by PCR. The amplified product is detected using fluorescent dyes. These are usually linked to oligonucleotide probes that bind specifically to the amplified product. Monitoring the fluorescence intensities during the PCR run in real time allows the the accumulating product to be identified, without the need to re-open the reaction tubes.
Prior to real-time RT-PCR, viral RNA must be extracted from the starting material. QIAGEN offers a range of products for RNA extraction from animal samples.
