About this webinar

Rapid multiplex PCR testing for respiratory syndromes have reshaped the diagnostic paradigm for respiratory infections. In hospitals, syndromic testing enables rapid, comprehensive pathogen identification and supporting timely, targeted clinical management – particularly in critically ill ICU patients. However, challenges remain in bridging molecular detection with clinical decision-making, as clinicians must interpret complex results to guide appropriate treatment strategies in real-world settings.

A/Prof Dr Anis Siham binti Zainal Abidin, Paediatric Intensivist, Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur
Associate Professor Dr. Anis is a Pediatric Intensivist with subspecialty training in the PICU at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (UK). A former Clinical Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), she has previously led both the Pediatric and Medical Education Departments at her previous institution. Now at Jeffrey Cheah Sunway Medical School, she continues her work in PICU registries, Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS), PICU rehabilitation, respiratory support and mechanical ventilation. She is also actively involved in medical education innovation, national training policy development, humanitarian work and clinical research.

A/Prof Dr Nuntra Suwantarat, Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology Consultant, Chulabhorn International College of Medicine, and Thammasat University Hospital, Thammasat University, Thailand
Associate Professor Nuntra Suwantarat, MD, D(ABMM), MSc(HSE) received her M.D. from Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI. Following a clinical fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Case Western Reserve University Program in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Suwantarat did a second fellowship in Medical Microbiology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Upon completion of her fellowship training, Dr. Suwantarat joined the faculty at Chulabhorn International College of Medicine (CICM), Thammasat University, Thailand. She is currently a lecturer, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Consultant at Thammasat University Hospital. She is the Chairman of the Rational Laboratory Use (RLU) Committee, Thammasat University Hospital. Dr. Suwantarat’s focused area of research is in antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, infection prevention and diagnostic microbiology in resource-limited settings.
