Working towards more sustainable research
Curiosity drives science. It's also what pushes you and us to make scientific discoveries and advances in healthcare.
"Q-rious" is a QIAGEN hosted infotainment show with brain food for nerds and novices. It's aimed at the inquisitive and the open-minded. In each episode, our presenters take you on a 60-minute ride through burning topics and hot trends in molecular research.
The show features ad-hoc experiments, bite-sized videos, interactive polls and quizzes, and a bearable dose of PowerPoint to prove that learning can be fun.

Q-rious Episode 2: Working towards more sustainable research
While science makes improvements in life possible, it also generates waste. According to My Green Lab, laboratories use up to 10 times more energy than commercial office buildings, four times more water, and produce over 5.5 million metric tons of plastic waste annually – 2% of global production.
So, what can we do?
Sustainability. We’d say it’s the laboratory theme of the future, but it’s not. We need to make it a priority now. There are simple ways laboratories and companies can reduce their environmental impact today. Together, we can make a huge difference.
That’s why in episode 2, we’ll be covering:
- The more sustainable lab of today
- Practical practices (eco-friendlier lab edition)
- What sustainability means to us
- How to reduce waste – from packing to products
- Collaboration with My Green Lab
So join us, and let’s work on sustainable science, together.
