Isolate high-quality genomic DNA from up to 1.8 ml of microbial culture with the DNeasy PowerLyzer Microbial Kit.

This kit successfully tests a variety of microorganisms, including Gram (+/-) bacteria, yeast and spores, by lysing microorganisms through a combination of heat, detergent and mechanical 0.1 glass bead digestion. The PowerLyzer 24 homogenizer is recommended for this kit.

DNeasy PowerLyzer Microbial Kit was formerly sold by MO BIO as PowerLyzer Ultraclean Microbial DNA Isolation Kit.

DNeasy PowerLyzer Microbial Kit (glass beads) and the DNeasy UltraClean Microbial Kit (garnet beads) were used to isolate DNA from gram positive E. faecalis bacteria using the PowerLyzer 24 Homogenizer at 2000 RPM for 5 minutes. Ten µl of each eluate was electrophoresed on a 1% agarose gel. Glass beads in the DNeasy PowerLyzer Microbial kit provided higher DNA yield using the PowerLyzer 24. The DNeasy UltraClean Microbial Kit uses softer, garnet beads that are recommended for bead beating with a Vortex Genie 2.
