This PCR reagent has been evaluated as 100% specific for Taylorella equigenitalis DNA. It shows no detectable cross-reactivity with related Taylorella species.
Pathogen DNA identification by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is based on the amplification of specific regions of the pathogen genome. In real-time PCR, the amplified product is identified using fluorescent dyes. These are usually linked to oligonucleotide probes that bind specifically to the amplified product. Monitoring the fluorescence intensities during the PCR run (i.e., in real time) allows the accumulation of the product to be observed without having to re-open the reaction tubes afterward.
The cador T. equigenitalis PCR Reagent contains a primer-probe set specific for a highly conserved region of the T. equigenitalis genome. The reagent also includes a heterologous amplification system as an internal control to identify possible PCR inhibition and an external positive control. Real-time PCR is carried out on a suitable instrument, such as the Rotor-Gene Q.
