cador T. equigenitalis PCR Kit

This PCR assay has been validated as 100% specific for Taylorella equigenitalis DNA. It shows no cross-reactivity with related Taylorella species. The validation was carried out at the Veterinary Laboratory Agency (VLA) Weybridge, UK.

Pathogen detection by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is based on the amplification of specific regions of the pathogen genome. In real-time PCR, the amplified product is detected using fluorescent dyes. These are usually linked to oligonucleotide probes that bind specifically to the amplified product. Monitoring the fluorescence intensities during the PCR run (i.e., in real time) allows detection of the accumulating product without having to re-open the reaction tubes afterward.

The cador T. equigenitalis PCR Kit contains a primer-probe set specific for a highly conserved region of the Taylorella equigenitalis genome. The kit also includes a second heterologous amplification system as an internal control to identify possible PCR inhibition, and an external positive control. Real-time PCR detection is carried out on a real-time PCR cycler, such as the Rotor-Gene Q.

Bacterial DNA can be manually isolated from genital swabs using the QIAamp cador Pathogen Mini Kit or the QIAamp DNA Mini Kit. Both isolation protocols are fully automatable on the QIAcube. The isolated DNA is ready for use in real-time PCR with the cador T. equigenitalis PCR Kit on a real-time PCR cycler, such as the Rotor-Gene Q.

The cador T. equigenitalis PCR Kit is designed to screen for Taylorella equigenitalis infections in samples from horses.
