Performance
The virotype BVDV RT-PCR Reagent is a solution for the identification of RNA from BVDV using real-time RT-PCR.

Principle

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is based on the amplification of specific regions of the pathogen genome. In real-time RT-PCR, the amplified product is detected using fluorescent dyes. These are usually linked to oligonucleotide probes that bind specifically to the amplified product. Monitoring the fluorescence intensities during the PCR run (i.e., in real time) allows the detection of the accumulating product without the need to re-open the reaction tubes afterward.

The virotype BVDV RT-PCR Reagent contains all of the necessary reagents for the identification of BVDV RNA, including a positive control. With this reagent, both reverse transcription and PCR are performed in one reaction tube, reducing the risk of contamination.

The reagent uses two specific primer/probe combinations: one for BVDV RNA yielding FAM™ fluorescence and one for the internal control yielding HEX™ fluorescence. This internal control excludes the possibility of false-negative results.

A Positive Control serves to verify the functionality of the reaction mix for the amplification of the BVDV RNA target.

Procedure

The virotype BVDV RT-PCR Reagent contains a ready-to-use mixes, as well as positive and negative controls. Both reverse transcription and PCR are performed in one reaction tube, reducing the risk of contamination.

Viral RNA is extracted from the sample material using a suitable sample preparation kit.

Applications

The virotype BVDV RT-PCR Reagent is intended for the identification of RNA from bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV).
