How to effectively use NGS in metagenomics and host-microbiome studies: Minimizing Bias in Microbiome Research

In microbiome research, each step of the process is critical in guaranteeing that you get accurate results. Unfortunately, it is easy to accidentally introduce sample bias that affects your downstream results, which may give a false picture of the make-up of your microbial community. Luckily, there are steps you can take to minimize this bias, allowing you to produce the most accurate results. 
 In this talk we will discuss methods for minimizing sample bias in:

  • NGS library preparation and analysis
  • Bioinformatic analysis

Dylan Barbera received his bachelors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Microbiology from The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Master of Science degree from Mount St. Mary's University in Biotechnology and Management. He currently serves as a Global Product Manager for QIAGEN's portfolio of Microbiology and Whole Genome Sequencing NGS products.
